National Ministry of Science and Technology High-tech Research and Development Center released in August 2017 “Notice of the State Key R&D Project Key Basic Materials Technology Promotion and Industrial Key Projects 2017 Project Announcement” (Guo Gao Gao Ji Zi [2017] No. 35) , Our institute (Key Laboratory) Professor Chen Jiachuan led the team to apply for the “Highly Efficient Utilization of Fiber Raw Materials Based on the Papermaking Process” (subsidy No. 2017YFB0307900). The central government has funded 25.31 million yuan. This is the first time that our school has taken the lead in undertaking the key special projects of the national key R&D program.
The project “Highly Efficient Utilization of Fibrous Raw Materials Based on Papermaking Process” hosted by Prof. Chen Jiachuan is one of the 70 approved projects approved by the national key research and development program “Key base material technology upgrading and industrialization” during the “13th Five-Year Plan”. The project aims at the utilization of plant fiber resources in the traditional pulp and paper industry with low degree of utilization, single product, and low added value. The main components of plant fiber resources are effectively separated and transformed, according to the pulp and paper process Sub-clean separation and utilization and environmental assessment, key preparation technologies of micro-nano-cellulose and pilot plant demonstration, high value utilization and industrialization demonstration of lignin during pulping process, hemicellulose extraction technology of pulping hydrolyzate and industrialization of xylose preparation Demonstration and eco-type short process clean pulp and paper technology research and development and industrialization demonstration, etc. were conducted in five aspects. After the project is completed on schedule, it will have significant social, economic and environmental benefits, and will further promote the transformation and upgrading of China's traditional industries.

This has provided an important guarantee for the implementation of the project and has also proved that our school's pulp and paper specialty (discipline) is in the industry.
