On the morning of July 3, 2017, Professor Pan Xuejun from the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus came to my key laboratory for academic exchanges. First, an academic report entitled Acidic lithium bromide trihydrate (ALBTH) method: a new protocol for quantitating lignin in lignocellulosic biomass was held in Room A320, No. 2 Teaching Building. The Deputy Dean Ding Hongjie presided over the report meeting. The report meeting also communicated with Prof. Pan. After the report meeting, she was accompanied by Professor Pang Zhiqiang and visited the laboratory.
At the report meeting, Professor Pan Xuejun first introduced the pretreatment and separation of lignocellulose, the enzyme-catalyzed saccharification and chemical saccharification of lignocellulose, the lignocellulosic biological and chemical conversion of chemicals and liquid fuels, cellulose, hemicellulose and The main fields and research status of biomass research such as high value-added transformation of lignin and basic principles of plant cell physical and chemical changes in the process of biomass refining. In combination with the efficient swelling and dissolving properties of cellulose lithium hydrate on cellulose, a rapid and mild acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of carbohydrates was established to establish an analytical technique for the rapid separation and simple measurement of lignin. Furthermore, the separation mechanism and analytical method of lignocellulose components were further analyzed for their reliability and repeatability. After the report was completed, Prof. Pan gave detailed answers to the questions raised by the teachers and students on the scene and discussed with the relevant teachers and students in the field on the development trend and direction of the field of biomass refining.
Dr. Xue Xuejun is a professor of Department of Biosystems Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Campus. He obtained a bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degree in chemical engineering from Tianjin University of Science and Technology, and a doctorate in applied life science from Hokkaido University in Japan. He successively studied at Georgia Tech University, University of Minnesota, and UK. He is a postdoctoral researcher at Columbia University. He has published more than 90 academic papers, participated in 6 academic monographs, authorized 3 U.S. patents, with a total citation of >6500, an h-index of 37, and an i10-index of 64. He was elected as an academician of the International Timber Academy in 2013 and won the United States in 2009. Natural Science Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award, 2011 Alfred Toepfer Teacher Award. Pang Zhiqiang, Li Zongquan, Lu Gaojin and other teachers of our college had engaged in scientific research exchanges in Professor Pan Xuejun’s laboratory.
